The age old organic debate.  Are organic foods healthier?  If I can’t eat organic should I forgo eating fruits and veggies altogether (I am pretty sure I know the answer to this is NO!)?

According to the Environmental Working group the dirty dozen and the clean 15 refer respectively to the fruits and vegetables that are the most and least contaminated by pesticide use.  The EWG recommends buying organic whenever possible; although the produce may not contain more nutrients you will be exposed to less pesticides.comic organic

The fruits and veggies with the most pesticides (The Dirty Dozen) are:

  8. Sweet bell peppers
  9. Cucumbers
  10. Cherry tomatoes
  11. Snap peas (imported)
  12. Potatoes

And the fruits and veggies with the least pesticides (The Clean Fifteen) are:

  1. I think this is a helpful list if you need to be frugal with the weekly shop. We grow and buy organic for various reasons. It encourages bio-diverse farming and rich soil, which means nutrient dense food free from commercial chemicals. I really don’t fancy having to digest week killer, even in trace amounts…
